Sue Garvey
Sue Garvey is Executive Director of Cornerstone Housing for Women, a community organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women. Throughout her life, Sue has expressed, through action, her belief that everyone deserves a home. It’s a human right to have a good home and you can’t heal, you can’t move on in your life, you can’t contribute to your community, until you have a good home base or foundation.
Sue has been with Cornerstone for 15 years and is passionate about her commitment to providing the best possible housing for women who are at risk of being homeless. There is an extraordinary and unabated energy about this woman. It affects everyone who comes in contact with her.
Sue is responsible for four housing communities for women who are at risk of being homeless. The 60 bed shelter, MacLaren House for 22 women, McPhail House for 6 women, and Booth Street housing for 40 women. She has a management team of 12 women and a full staff team of about 65 women and men. While most executive directors find themselves immersed in the business aspects of their job, Sue has always taken the hands on approach. She is very emphatic on three internal core values: social justice, integrity, and respect.
