Meet Karen Nielsen and Leigh Reid, two former social workers turned co-owners of HighJinx, a non-registered not-for-profit. HighJinx is a gently used furniture store with a social conscience. The storefront on Somerset Street West sells a variety of modern and retro furniture, as well as home decor, housewares and art by local artists. But in the basement, it stockpiles second-hand furnishings that are free for the asking.
Owners Leigh Reid and Karen Nielsen, both moms and former social workers, have been friends for five years.
