Maria Hawkins
Maria Desire Hawkins, ‘The Blueslady’, advocate for persons with disabilities and passionate promoter of the arts for 25 years. Currently providing music driven workshops for up to 10,000 students per year (including variations of her program“Stop the Bullying!” for adults with developmental disabilities). Maria’s high-energy motivational presentations lift spirits for families of Armed Forces personnel, PSAC workers, teachers and volunteers.
Ottawa born, this former reservist, Leadership Ottawa alumni, mother and grandmother – was raised in CFB Borden. Royal Conservatory trained, and recipient National Arts Centre Artistic Excellence Award. Community Builder and co-founder of the Ottawa Blues Society, co-creator Blues in the Schools.
