On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14 February 2013, we are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME

ONE BILLION WOMEN VIOLATED IS AN ATROCITY

ONE BILLION WOMEN DANCING IS A REVOLUTION

What does ONE BILLION look like? On 14 February 2013, it will look like a REVOLUTION.

ONE BILLION RISING IS:

A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being

Celebrate HER 2011: 1st Annual Charity Soiree

On May 14, 2011, Celebrate HER hosted its 1st annual event at the Cube Gallery, welcoming approximately fifty people to an elegant and awe-inspiring evening, benefiting Cornerstone Housing for Women. Westboro songstress, Amanda Cottreau enchanted the audience with the launch of her first solo album, Universe in a Soft Shell. Her special musical guests included Ottawa’s neo-folk trio Musk Ox and Toronto’s unclassifiable darling, Katherine Katey Morley. One of the many highlights of the evening was when spoken word poet, Nathanael Larochette, delivered a candid performance of his prolific prose. As warm hues of color transformed the walls anew, the eyes were drawn again and again to the visual feast of Jean Jewer’s nationally acclaimed abstract paintings. Ottawa-based photographer, Dwayne Brown‘s, photographic series showcased the raw beauty and strength of amazing women in our community. Dish Catering wowed the pallet with a mouth-watering selection of catered delicacies. The clear favorites were the fresh Thai spring rolls with green mango, mint and spicy cashew sauce and the grilled + chilled citrus prawn in roasted strawberry cocktail. The entire selection of offerings was deliciously fresh and beautifully presented – every bite a sensory and visual pleasure. Read more →
